Director Chris Eyre discusses a scene with actor Annawon Weeden, who plays King Philip. Weeden, a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe, is an educator in his community and is a traditional singer and dancer.
A couple of the documentaries were directed by Chris Eyre, the American Indian director of one of my favorite films “Smoke Signals”. The series is available on the PBS website for the series.

After the mayflower may prove to be good but it is not accurate.
They did not even get the name of the Massasoit right. Even Nathaniel Philbrick knows Ousa Mequin was the Massasoit. Ousa Mequin was his name but this group thinks the Great Leader of the Wampanoag nation’s name was Massasoit.
This guy is supposed to be an educator of indian things? I think not.
It is shameful that Annawon and his recently recognized Tribe do not even know this basic truth! How could they have acted in this movie if they did?
For shame
Thank you for your comments. It is disappointing when you expect to see something where you can learn about history and find that the care was not taken to bring some authenticity to the project.
Before you lambast Annawon & the Wampanoag tribe you really should find out what was happening behind the scenes and how the script and contracts for the film were altered by WGBH. Please do your research before you start making accusations.
